Elgato Green Screen MT

The studio features a wall-mounted motorized green screen from Elgato, providing instant chroma key capability without permanent floor space commitment. When not in use, it retracts into a compact ceiling-mounted housing.

Mounting & Mechanism

  • Wall-mounted on the north concrete wall
  • Motorized roll-up/roll-down mechanism
  • Retracts into compact housing when not in use
  • Center-mounted at acoustic ceiling height (~2.75m)
  • Green screen drops to ~1.15m above floor
  • Wrinkle-resistant polyester fabric

Coverage & Positioning

  • 186cm width covers talent position comfortably
  • 200cm drop provides full seated/standing coverage
  • Talent should stand 1.0-1.5m in front of the screen
  • Minimum 1m separation prevents green spill on subject
  • Camera throw of 5m provides clean framing with margin
  • Compatible with all 3 camera angles simultaneously
Chroma Key Tips
  • Even illumination: Dedicated background light (Godox LE200Bi) must produce flat, shadow-free coverage across the entire screen surface
  • No hotspots: Position background light at 45-degree angle, 2m from screen
  • Separation: Keep talent at least 1m from the screen to minimize green spill
  • Subject lighting: Key and fill lights on talent should NOT illuminate the green screen
  • Floor: Vinyl plank flooring helps — no green reflection from carpet
  • Clothing: Avoid green/lime clothing on talent during chroma shoots

RT60, Modal & NC Compliance

Reverberation Time (RT60)

Design Target RT60 target: 0.25 – 0.40s  |  Achieved: 0.28s PASS
Octave Band (Hz) 125 250 500 1000 2000 4000

Achieved (s) 0.38 0.33 0.28 0.26 0.25 0.24
Status +0.03 +0.01 PASS PASS PASS PASS

Low-frequency RT60 slightly above target is acceptable for video production use. Bass traps address the 125 Hz excess. Mid and high frequencies are well controlled.

Modal Analysis

Room Modes: f = n × c / (2L) Studio dimensions: L = 5.00m, W = 2.36m, H = 2.75m
Schroeder frequency: 174 Hz
Axis Dimension Mode 1 Mode 2 Mode 3 Mode 4 Mode 5

Height 2.75m 62.4 Hz 124.7 Hz 187.1 Hz 249.5 Hz 311.8 Hz
No Coincidences No problematic mode coincidences exist. The 5 m length spreads modes well across the low-frequency range, and the height mode (62.4 Hz) maintains adequate separation from both length (34.3 Hz) and width (72.7 Hz) fundamentals.

NC-25 Compliance Budget

Source Budget (dB) Margin Status
HVAC contribution (max) 18 4 dB OK
Transmitted noise (max) 18 OK
Combined target NC-25 PASS
NC Reference NC-25 is suitable for recording studios and broadcast facilities. It allows clear dialogue capture without audible background noise in recordings. The studio's east wall (STC 62) is critical for attenuating server room noise (55-65 dBA from B313).

Boundary Assemblies

Each boundary of the Studio has a specific construction assembly to meet acoustic isolation requirements. The east (server) wall is the most critical — it must attenuate 55-65 dBA of constant server room noise to below NC-25.

Boundary Wall ID STC Construction Criticality
North Wall 1 STC 65 300mm concrete + RSIC-1 clips + hat channel + 50mm rockwool + 2x gypsum Medium
East (Server) Wall 3 STC 62 100mm air gap + 2x16mm gypsum/Green Glue + 70mm studs/rockwool + 2x16mm gypsum/Green Glue CRITICAL
Buffer Spine Wall 5 STC 55 2x12.5mm gypsum/Green Glue + 100mm studs/rockwool + 2x12.5mm gypsum/Green Glue High
Studio/Editing Wall 7 STC 40 12.5mm gypsum + 70mm studs/rockwool + 12.5mm gypsum Low
Server Wall (East) — STC 62 The east wall separates the Studio from the B313 server room which generates 55-65 dBA continuously. The wall uses double layers of 16mm gypsum with Green Glue compound on both faces of a 70mm stud cavity filled with rockwool, plus a 100mm existing air gap. This multi-layer mass-spring-mass design achieves STC 62, reducing server noise to below the NC-25 threshold inside the studio.

Door — Studio Entry

  • Location: From Editing area
  • STC Rating: 45
  • Size: 90 cm W x 210 cm H
  • Seal: Magnetic perimeter seal + drop seal threshold
  • Core: Solid-core acoustic door

Flanking Paths

  • Ceiling plenum: Sealed with acoustic barrier above partition lines
  • Floor: Continuous float floor with perimeter isolation
  • HVAC: Silenced ductwork with flexible connections
  • Electrical: Acoustic putty pads on all outlets

Surface Treatment Plan

The Studio treatment balances absorption and diffusion to achieve a natural-sounding recording environment without excessive deadening. The treatment ratio is 50% absorption, 20% diffusion, and 30% reflective surfaces.

Wall Treatment

50% absorption panels: Fabric-wrapped 50mm rockwool panels at first reflection points and behind camera positions.
20% diffusion: QRD diffuser panels on the buffer spine wall to scatter mid/high frequencies.
30% reflective: Untreated gypsum surfaces to maintain some natural room ambience for on-camera dialogue.

Ceiling Treatment

80% coverage with acoustic ceiling tile installed in a suspended grid below the HVAC plenum. Tiles are 600x600mm mineral fiber with NRC 0.85. The remaining 20% allows access to HVAC and lighting rigging points.

Floor

Float floor with vinyl plank surface (no carpet). Hard surface is essential for rolling equipment (tripods, camera dollies, chairs). Float floor provides structural decoupling from the building slab. Vinyl plank is quiet underfoot and easy to clean.

Bass Traps

4x corner-mounted bass traps, floor-to-ceiling in all four room corners. 100mm rockwool panels achieve absorption coefficients of 0.60+ at 125 Hz, addressing the low-frequency RT60 excess identified in the analysis.

Silencer Run C & NC-25 Ductwork

The Studio is served by Silencer Run C in the Daikin VRF HVAC system. The silencer attenuates fan and airflow noise to ensure the HVAC contribution stays well below the NC-25 threshold.

HVAC Noise Control Strategy

  • 1000mm inline duct silencer on supply and return runs
  • 25 dB attenuation across speech-critical frequencies
  • 2.0 m/s terminal velocity at diffuser face (low turbulence)
  • Flexible duct connections at both ends of silencer to prevent structure-borne vibration transmission
  • Low-velocity diffusers (AVD-09) designed for NC-20 environments
  • Return air path through acoustically-lined ceiling plenum with transfer silencer to prevent cross-talk

HVAC budget usage: 18 dB of 25 dB NC target (72%)
