Construction Sequence

Critical path installation order — acoustic isolation depends on correct sequencing. Every phase must be completed in order. Skipping or reordering steps will compromise the acoustic envelope.

BUILDER CUSTOMIZATION GUIDE -- INSTALLATION SEQUENCE

CUSTOMIZABLE -- Scaffolding and temporary works supplier, site safety signage style, worker scheduling and shift patterns, tool brands, dust protection and site cleaning methods, delivery logistics and staging areas, progress reporting format.

DO NOT ALTER -- Phase sequence order (structural shell before floating floor before walls before ceiling before doors before treatment), hold-point inspection requirements, curing times between phases, seal-before-close protocol, STC verification testing at each stage. Changing the build order compromises acoustic isolation. Follow the sequence exactly as specified.

Installation Checklist

Complete each phase in order. Check off tasks as they are completed. Progress is saved automatically.

1
Preparation
Week 1
0/9
Site survey — verify all dimensions against SSOT (SSOT-GEOMETRY.html)
Mark out room boundaries on slab
Mark column positions — COL-W at x=334, COL-E at x=727 from SW corner
Mark buffer spine position — X=206 west face, X=221 east face
Verify ceiling height (350cm slab-to-slab)
Remove any existing finishes
Clean concrete surfaces
Seal any cracks in concrete walls/floor (non-expanding foam)
Install temporary power and lighting
2
Float Floor — MUST BE FIRST
Week 1–2
0/7
WHY FIRST: Walls sit ON the float floor. If floor comes after walls, you lose the isolation break.
Layout neoprene isolation pads (grid pattern, 400mm centers)
Install plywood substrate (18mm, screw to pads only)
Apply damping compound between plywood layers
Install second plywood layer (joints offset 200mm)
Leave 10mm perimeter gap (isolate from walls!)
DO NOT seal perimeter gap yet — seal AFTER walls complete
Check floor level (max 3mm deviation over 2m)
3
Perimeter Walls — Concrete Wall Treatment
Week 2–3
0/6
North concrete wall — RSIC-1 clips → hat channel → rockwool → 2× gypsum (STC-65)
NW diagonal wall — RSIC-V clips → hat channel → rockwool → 2× gypsum (STC-65)
East server wall — build independent stud wall, double gypsum + Green Glue both sides (STC-62)
South wall — rebuild with double stud, rockwool fill (STC-50)
All perimeter walls BEFORE internal partitions
Seal all edges to float floor with acoustic sealant
4
Internal Partitions
Week 3–4
0/5
Buffer spine — center partition (X=206221, STC-55)
VO/Control partition — with window rough opening (80×50cm, STC-53)
Studio/Editing partition (STC-40)
Internal walls connect to float floor, NOT to slab
Internal walls must NOT touch ceiling — leave 10mm gap + seal
5
Ceiling Framework
Week 4
0/6
Install spring hangers from slab (400mm grid)
Attach ceiling grid to spring hangers
Ceiling grid must NOT touch any wall (10mm gap all around)
Install rockwool above ceiling grid (100mm)
Leave HVAC penetration openings
Install ceiling access panels for maintenance
6
HVAC Integration
Week 4–5
0/9
Mount IDU-03 and IDU-04 on vibration isolators
Run main duct (300×200mm) in ceiling plenum — ALL hangers must include neoprene isolation pads (no direct metal-to-slab suspension)
Install silencers: Run A (1500mm), B (1000mm), C (1000mm), D (500mm)
Silencer straight-run: Maintain 300mm minimum straight duct upstream AND downstream of every silencer — elbows or transitions at the silencer face reduce attenuation by 3–8 dB
Connect flex duct from silencers to diffusers (min 1m flex)
Install AVD-09 diffusers ()
Seal all duct penetrations through walls with acoustic boots
Run refrigerant lines (isolate from structure with rubber grommets)
Test HVAC before closing ceiling — check noise levels
HVAC noise levels verified acceptable before proceeding
7
Doors & Observation Window
Week 5
0/7
Install door frames (acoustic rated)
Hang acoustic doors — Entry STC-50, Control STC-45, VO STC-45, Studio STC-40
Install drop seals and perimeter gaskets on all doors
Install observation window frame (5° tilt toward Control room)
Install triple-pane glass assembly (6mm + 100mm air + 10mm lam + 75mm air + 8mm)
Seal all frames with acoustic sealant
Test doors — verify proper seal (daylight test)
8
Acoustic Treatment
Week 5–6
0/6
Treatment is LAST — after all structure is complete and sealed. Acoustic treatment addresses reflections inside the sealed envelope.
Install bass traps in corners (12× total across VO, Control, Studio — 4 per room)
Install wall absorption panels (rockwool + fabric wrap)
Install QRD diffusers on Control room rear wall
Install acoustic ceiling tiles
Install carpet (VO, Control, Editing — NOT Studio)
Verify treatment coverage percentages per room against design spec
9
Green Screen Installation
Week 6
0/6
Mount Elgato Green Screen MT wall bracket in Studio
Position: north wall, centered, 220cm from floor (above camera line)
Motor mechanism: wall-mount bracket → motor housing → roll tube → screen
Test motorized deploy/retract
Verify even lighting on green screen surface
Mount into the acoustic wall assembly, NOT through to concrete (would create flanking path)
10
Systems & Testing
Week 6–8
0/7
Install electrical (outlets, data, conduit)
Install lighting
HVAC commissioning — run for 24hrs, measure NC in each room
Acoustic testing — RT60 measurements at 6 octave bands per room
STC verification — impact testing through each wall
Punch list — fix any deficiencies
Final NC measurement — all rooms must meet targets (VO: NC-20, Control: NC-25, Studio: NC-25, Editing: NC-35)

Sequencing Warnings

These sequencing rules are non-negotiable. Violating any of them compromises the acoustic isolation envelope.

X Float floor MUST come before walls. Walls sit on the float floor to maintain the isolation break from the concrete slab.
X Perimeter walls MUST come before internal partitions. The outer envelope seals first; internal divisions subdivide the sealed space.
X HVAC MUST be tested before ceiling closes. Once the ceiling is sealed, accessing ductwork for corrections is extremely costly.
X All sealing MUST be continuous — any gap = flanking path. Even a 1mm crack can reduce wall STC by 10+ points.
! Green Glue needs 30 days cure for rated STC. Acoustic testing before 30 days will show lower performance than final. STC readings taken before Day 30 are indicative only — do NOT fail a wall based on early readings. Final acceptance STC test must occur after full 30-day cure. Schedule accordingly: if walls complete at Week 3, earliest valid STC test = Week 7.
! Allow 48hrs between HVAC install and noise testing. System needs to reach thermal equilibrium for accurate NC readings.
