BUILDER CUSTOMIZATION GUIDE -- TREATMENT LAYOUTS

CUSTOMIZABLE -- Fabric wrap colour, texture, and pattern on absorption panels, ceiling cloud suspension rod brand, mounting bracket finish colour, panel frame edge profile colour, decorative diffuser surface finish (stain or paint).

DO NOT ALTER -- Panel core material and density, panel thickness, NRC rating per position, placement coordinates on walls and ceiling, coverage area per room, ceiling cloud dimensions and hang height, bass trap corner placement and depth, diffuser well depth sequence, air gap behind panels. Treatment positions are calculated for specific RT60 and frequency response targets.

Installation Requirements

Critical requirements for acoustic treatment installation. Follow these precisely to achieve target NC and RT60 values.

Critical Installation Requirements

  1. Panel Mounting Heights: Wall absorption panels should be centered at ear height (1200 mm from finished floor) for seated positions in the Control Room and Editing Area, and at standing mic height (1450 mm) in the VO Live room. Studio panels alternate between the two heights for broadband coverage.
  2. First Reflection Point Calculation: In the Control Room, use the mirror trick method. Sit at the sweet spot (38% of room length from front wall) and have an assistant slide a mirror along each side wall. Where the monitor is visible in the mirror marks the first reflection point. Place absorption panels centered on these points.
  3. Bass Trap Corner Coverage: Floor-to-ceiling bass traps in VO Live, Control, and Studio rooms must fill the tri-corner junctions completely. Use Rockwool RW5 (100 kg/m³) cut in 300mm-wide triangular prisms. Seal all edges against wall faces with acoustic sealant. Fabric wrap must be acoustically transparent.
  4. Adhesive vs Mechanical Fixing: Absorption panels on gypsum walls use Z-clip mechanical fasteners (not adhesive alone). Each panel requires minimum 4 fixings. QRD diffusers in the Control Room rear wall mount on French cleats rated for 15 kg per panel. Ceiling tiles sit in a suspended T-bar grid system.
  5. Fire Rating Requirements: All acoustic materials must carry Class A fire rating (ASTM E84). Fabric wrap on panels must be inherently flame-retardant, not treated. Rockwool products are non-combustible by nature. Maintain fire-rated assembly continuity through all penetrations per local code.
  6. Air Gap Behind Panels: Wall-mounted absorption panels require a 25 mm minimum air gap between the panel back and the wall surface. This air gap significantly improves low-frequency absorption performance. Use standoff clips or spacers to maintain this gap consistently.
  7. Ceiling Cloud Suspension (Control Room): The acoustic cloud in the Control Room hangs 200 mm below the ceiling slab on threaded rods with vibration isolators. Cloud panels must not make rigid contact with walls. Maintain a 50 mm perimeter gap between cloud edges and all wall surfaces.
  8. QRD Diffuser Alignment: Rear wall QRD diffusers in the Control Room must be installed with wells oriented vertically. Panels are mounted flush edge-to-edge with no gaps. Bottom edge at 600 mm from finished floor, top edge at approximately 2200 mm. Surface must remain exposed (no paint or film).
  9. Observation Window Integration: Treatment panels adjacent to the VO Live observation window (80 x 50 cm triple-pane) must terminate with a clean edge. Use aluminium trim channels at all panel-to-window jamb interfaces. No absorption material may obstruct the window reveal.
  10. Sequencing with Other Trades: All acoustic treatment installation follows HVAC diffuser installation and electrical rough-in. Treatment panels must accommodate existing penetrations. Cut panels on-site using a sharp knife (not a saw) to prevent fiber release. Vacuum all cut edges before fabric wrapping.
